BMW i3s
The first BMW i3s was powered by a high-performance 184hp electric motor offering a power improvement of up to 40 per cent on its first generation “standard” i3 counterpart.
The BMW i3s also differed in that it came with sports suspension, dampers and anti-roll bars. Drivers were also able to select SPORT mode using the Driving Experience Control switch which delivered a more direct accelerator response and tighter steering characteristics. The BMW i3s came as standard with exclusive 20-inch light-alloy wheels in double-spoke design that were 20mm wider than the previously available versions.
The BMW i3s was capable of reaching 62mph in 6.9 seconds on its way to a top speed of 99mph. BMW reported a combined electric power consumption of 14.3kWh per 62 miles on the “New European Driving Cycle” (NEDC). Its electric range was 125 miles in everyday use.
The latest all-electric BMW i3s now has double the battery capacity of the original i3s with 120Ah which, by way of comparison, provides a range of 214 miles (previously 174 miles) according to NEDC. During everyday use, the latest i3s can cover 160 miles – an increase of almost 30 per cent from the previous 94Ah model.
The BMW i3s, with its 184hp power, maintains its 0-62mph in 6.9 seconds and now accelerates from 50mph to 75mph in just 4.3 seconds.
