Seat to Launch Pure Electric Car (SEAT el-Born)
The SEAT el-Born concept electric car will make its public debut at the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show and, in doing so, become the first 100% electric vehicle based on the Volkswagen Group MEB platform. Named after one of the most iconic neighbourhoods of Barcelona (where it was designed and developed) the car is expected to hit markets by 2020.
A power and energy dense battery pack at its very centre gives the SEAT el-Born a range of up to 420km and this is complemented by a heat pump which can reduce electrical heating consumption, saving up to 60km in autonomy. Performance is demonstrated by the el-Born’s ability to reach 100km/h in only 7.5 seconds. Perhaps best of all owners will be able to recharge the battery to 80% capacity in as little as 47 minutes.
SEAT has given considerable thought to the vehicle’s aerodynamics to maximise range. With there being no need for a grille, cooling vents are placed lower down the vehicle’s front, providing air to the battery pack and so streamlining air flow over the front of the vehicle. The A-pillar has noticeably moved further forward creating more room in the cabin. The turbine design of the 20" wheels improves aerodynamics whilst also ventilating the brakes. The aerodynamic effort is completed by a double layer spoiler at the rear of the vehicle.
Inside, increased space means that there is, for example room to store a bag between the front two seats in front of a 10" infotainment and connectivity screen perched in the centre of the dashboard.
